Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has expressed confidence in his capacity to lead Nigeria as president in 2027, stating that he possesses the qualifications and experience to occupy the highest office in the country.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Makinde said his political and leadership journey has equipped him for greater responsibility beyond his current role.

“I don’t have any doubt that I have the capacity to occupy the highest office in this land, and I have what it takes,” Makinde said.”

“But is it what I want to do right now? Is it what Nigerians are asking for? Is it what my party will say we should do? I don’t know. We still have a long time to go.”

Makinde, however, emphasised the need to fix internal issues within his party before considering any presidential ambition.

He stressed that a strong and united party structure is essential for anyone with such aspirations.

“No one can dictate my direction. I won’t play stunt politics or chase popularity without purpose,” he added.

Focusing on his present duties, the governor said he remains committed to delivering good governance in Oyo State and will not be distracted by premature political speculations.

“Right now, I am focusing on what people have given to me, the task ahead of us.”

“I will not be distracted,” Makinde noted.”

“I won’t do things just because they sound good to some people. Everything I do must have substance and serve the people.”

He also pointed out that his political ambitions will always be backed by preparation and accountability.

According to him, he would never make bold declarations without a clear path and willingness to be held responsible for the outcome.

Makinde recalled how he began his political journey in 2007 with the hope of becoming a senator.

However, he expressed gratitude for exceeding that dream by becoming the governor of Oyo State.

“If my political journey ends right here, I am also very happy. I’ve achieved more than I set out to do and I’m grateful for the opportunity to make a meaningful impact,” he concluded.
