Cross River: Sandy Onoh’s Deputy, Emana Ambrose-Amawhe dumps PDP, joins APC

In a significant political shift in Cross River State, Emana Ambrose-Amawhe, the 2023 deputy governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Amawhe’s resignation from the PDP, dated March 28, 2025, brought an end to her long-standing relationship with the party.
Her formal welcome into the APC took place during the 61st birthday celebration of the First Lady of Cross River State, Eyoanwan Otu.
The event, held at Governor Bassey Otu’s residence, was graced by top APC officials, including the state chairman, party stakeholders, and the governor himself.
Speaking at the event, Amawhe expressed gratitude for the warm reception, saying, “Their Excellencies welcomed me into the progressive family today during the celebration of Her Excellency’s 61st birthday. I am honored to be part of a team that stands for development, unity, and real progress.”
Party leaders described her defection as a landmark victory for the APC in the state, lauding her courage and unwavering commitment to public service.
A seasoned media professional and development advocate, Amawhe played a prominent role in the PDP’s 2023 gubernatorial campaign.
Her move to the ruling party is expected to reshape political alliances in the build-up to future elections in Cross River.
In her resignation letter addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Edem Odo, Akpabuyo Local Government Area, Amawhe emphasized that her decision was taken after deep reflection and was driven by her desire to continue contributing meaningfully to the state and the nation at large.
