2025 UTME: No candidate will write exam outside their state of registration – Jamb

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has given assurance that no candidate will be required to take the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) outside their state of registration.
This was made known by Dr Fabian Benjamin, the Public Communication Advisor of JAMB, during a phone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.
Dr Benjamin explained that a few candidates who took part in the 2025 UTME mock examination outside their state of residence were only posted to the nearest available centres due to limited availability.
He pointed out that not all the Computer Based Test (CBT) centres were used for the mock exams, but all approved centres will be active for the main UTME.
He said, “If centres for mock in Abuja are filled up and there were available centres in Nassarawa State, candidates will be sent there.”
Dr Benjamin further clarified that this situation would not affect the main exam, as more centres would be involved in the main UTME exercise, ensuring candidates write within their registered states.
He also mentioned that candidates who register early usually have better chances of getting centres close to them.
However, if such centres are already full, they may be posted to any available centre within the state.
In an earlier statement released on Sunday, Dr Benjamin noted that the board was aware of some delays and other challenges experienced by candidates during the mock exams.
He apologized for the inconvenience and explained that the issues were expected due to the introduction of new features meant to improve the conduct of the main exam.
He said, “The mock examination serves as a trial version of the UTME, allowing the board to test new innovations while helping candidates familiarise themselves with the CBT environment.”
Dr Benjamin added that the mock exam has consistently met its goal over the years by identifying loopholes and helping candidates gain experience ahead of the main UTME.
He encouraged candidates to remain patient and continue making efforts towards a smooth and beneficial examination process.
The 2025 UTME is set to commence on April 25.
