Troops unravel plot to build illegal refining camps in Niger Delta region

The 6th Division of the Nigerian Army troops have uncovered plans to re-establish illegal refining camps in the Niger Delta as part of ongoing efforts to combat economic sabotage and related crimes in the region.
The operation, which spanned Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa States, resulted in the dismantling of 18 illegal bunkering sites and the seizure of 72,000 liters of stolen petroleum products.
Additionally, 28 suspected oil thieves were arrested, further strengthening the military’s crackdown on the illegal oil trade.
Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah, the spokesperson for the 6th Division, confirmed that the troops also intercepted eight 30-liter jerry cans filled with Automated Gas Oil (AGO) in Akwa Ibom State, specifically along the Okobo-Uyo road in Okobo Local Government Area. All suspects involved in the illegal oil transportation were arrested.
