Tinubu vows to complete key Road Projects Nationwide

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to upgrading and completing critical road infrastructure across the country, stating that no region will be left behind in the ongoing national development drive.
The President, represented by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, made this known on Sunday during the commissioning of section two of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road project. He described the project as a crucial route linking Nigeria’s southern and northern regions, essential for boosting economic activities and nationwide connectivity.
“My vision is to overhaul Nigeria’s roadways by completing and expanding critical infrastructure projects nationwide,” Tinubu said.
While acknowledging that some road projects began under previous administrations, the President noted that his government has tackled funding constraints, strengthened partnerships, and established fresh completion timelines to ensure delivery.
“In almost two years, we’ve awarded several new road projects, many of which have already been completed to boost trade, productivity, and regional development,” he added.
Highlighting the importance of inclusiveness, Tinubu stressed that no part of Nigeria is being overlooked. He noted that Kaduna State and Northern Nigeria have particularly benefited from massive infrastructure upgrades.
Among the standout projects, he mentioned the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano dual carriageway, which connects the Federal Capital Territory to 12 states across the North Central, Northwest, and Northeast. The President described it as one of the country’s most strategic highways, vital for both economic growth and social integration.
As part of the project, Tinubu approved an 11-kilometre extension to link the highway directly to the Aminu Kano International Airport and another 10-kilometre addition at the Kogi-Abuja entry point for broader coverage. He also ordered the installation of solar-powered lights along the entire stretch of the road to enhance security and visibility.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, praised the President’s resolve to transform Nigeria’s infrastructure sector. He disclosed that the 700-kilometre road is being built with reinforced concrete pavement and would be delivered within 14 months.
According to him, the road spans 350 kilometres each way from Abuja through Niger State, Kaduna, and Zaria, up to Kano. He revealed that Julius Berger has already completed 480 kilometres of the Kano section, with 280 kilometres left.
Umahi further stated that sections one and three of the road, totaling 118 kilometres, were awarded to Infiouest at a cost of N252 billion, with 30% of the funding paid upfront. Section two, measuring 82 kilometres on each side (164 kilometres total), was flagged off at N525 billion. The entire project, close to a trillion naira, is being executed by Infiouest, a firm the minister described as dependable.
The minister assured that progress will be closely monitored, with his team returning in 30 days for inspection. He also announced plans for zonal engagements across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones to report on ongoing road and bridge projects under the Tinubu administration.
Speaking at the event, Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, praised the President’s even-handed approach to development and described him as a leader committed to all regions.
“We deeply appreciate your efforts; your impact is felt nationwide,” Goronyo said. He listed projects in Illela (Sokoto), Lagos, and Badagry as examples of Tinubu’s national reach and dedication to transformative legacy highways.
He called on communities to support contractors and work in unity with government officials to build a better Nigeria.
