Mr. Peter Obi visits Bokkos Communities

The former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, on Sunday paid a condolence visit to Plateau State following the recent violent attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area that left many dead and displaced.

In a post shared on Monday via his X handle, Obi said he traveled from Abuja to Jos, the state capital, to sympathize with Governor Caleb Mutfwang and the people of the state over the tragedy, which he described as “senseless killings.”

“Yesterday, I travelled from Abuja to Jos, Plateau State, to condole with and show solidarity with Governor Caleb Mutfwang and the people of Plateau State over the recent senseless killings in the Bokkos area,” Obi stated.

From Jos, he proceeded to Bokkos, where he visited internally displaced persons, including children and families affected by the attacks. He condemned the violence and expressed concern that such incidents occur in a country that is not officially at war.

“What has happened in these communities is very saddening and utterly unacceptable. Nigerians should not be killed or forced to flee their homes when we are not at war. Every life is precious, and no Nigerian, regardless of where they live, should have to live in fear or uncertainty,” he said.

Obi offered his condolences to grieving families and expressed his heartbreak over the level of destruction he witnessed.

“My deepest condolences go to the families and communities who have suffered tragic losses. No words can truly capture the pain and devastation that such senseless violence brings,” he added.

The former governor of Anambra State also disclosed that the Obidient Movement had previously constructed a borehole in the IDP camp to supply clean water and returned with an additional donation of N7.5 million to support the welfare and education of displaced children.

“Earlier, the Obidient Movement had built a borehole to provide clean water for the IDP camp and the community, and we continued the support yesterday with the sum of 7.5 million naira to help in providing facilities for the displaced children, provide continuous education and ongoing needs of those affected,” Obi said.

He concluded by calling for compassionate and purposeful leadership across all levels of government.

“Now, more than ever, leadership and compassion are essential. I stand in solidarity with Plateau State and remain committed to supporting all efforts toward peace, justice, and healing.

“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace, and may the people find strength, comfort, and unity as they rebuild their lives,” he said.
