President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the recent wave of killings in Plateau State, where over 40 lives were lost, and has directed the state’s governor, Caleb Mutfwang, to summon the political will needed to end the violence and establish lasting peace.

In a statement released by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President condemned the ongoing attacks and extended his heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Plateau State.

He described the recurring crisis—largely attributed to long-standing ethnic and religious tensions—as unacceptable and urged the people of the state to embrace unity over division.

“The ongoing violence between communities in Plateau State, rooted in misunderstandings between different ethnic and religious groups, must cease,” President Tinubu said firmly.

He revealed that he had already instructed security agencies to thoroughly investigate the crisis and bring the perpetrators to justice. Stressing that the cycle of violence and reprisal attacks must be broken, he declared: “We cannot allow this devastation and the tit-for-tat attacks to continue. Enough is enough.”

Tinubu also charged Governor Mutfwang with addressing the root causes of the violence, which he noted have festered for over two decades. “The political leadership in Plateau State must tackle these problems head-on and find a fair, lasting solution,” the President stated.

He further disclosed that he has personally engaged Governor Mutfwang on possible strategies for peace and pledged the Federal Government’s support to implement dialogue, foster unity, and ensure accountability.

“The Federal Government remains committed to supporting the Plateau State government in promoting dialogue, fostering social cohesion, and ensuring accountability, crucial steps towards permanently resolving the conflict in Plateau,” Tinubu added.

The President’s message comes amid widespread concern over the deteriorating security situation in Plateau State and renewed calls for concrete action to halt the bloodshed.
