2025 Miss Africa Pageants with SGF, George Akume

The Federal Government has applauded the Cross River State Government for its proactive stance in tackling climate change, particularly through its climate-focused public awareness efforts that align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON, gave the commendation in Abuja during a courtesy visit from the organisers and contestants of the 2025 Miss Africa Pageant, led by the reigning queen, Miss Precious Okoye.

Akume praised the choice of climate change as the central theme of the 7th edition of the pageant, describing it as timely and commendable. He encouraged contestants to use their platforms to act as ambassadors for climate action, raising awareness about its adverse impacts while promoting solutions in areas like food security and sustainable development.

Miss Okoye, in her remarks, noted how the Miss Africa title has enabled her to champion agro-industrial initiatives that empower women and foster their integration into society.

Also speaking, Mr. Tomas Edim Ikpeme, Special Assistant to the Cross River State Governor on Tourism Development, emphasized that the 2025 edition of the pageant transcends tourism promotion, serving as a strategic tool to address pressing global challenges such as climate change. He also officially invited the SGF to the grand finale scheduled for 20 April 2025 at the Calabar International Convention Centre.

Contestants present during the visit represented countries including Algeria, Mali, Liberia, Malawi, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Botswana, Kenya, and Mozambique.
