Again, Singer Portable arrested in Ogun over alleged defamation, threat to life

The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed that popular singer Habeeb Badmus, widely known as Portable, is in their custody over allegations bordering on defamation and threat to life.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, in Ilorin.
According to her, the arrest followed a petition submitted by one Mr. Okunola Saheed, popularly known as “Osupa,” who accused the singer of several criminal offences.
“The petition borders on serious allegations which include criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and the use of abusive and insulting words,” she stated.
She explained that based on the weight of the allegations and the evidence provided, the command obtained a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court in Ilorin.
“Acting on this warrant, operatives from the Kwara State Command proceeded to Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday, where the suspect was apprehended at about 7:25 pm,” Ejire-Adeyemi said.
The arrest was carried out in the presence of legal representatives from both parties, and the police stated that Portable is currently in custody. Plans are already underway to charge him to court without delay.
The police spokesperson also emphasized the command’s dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice is done fairly and transparently.
She called on the public to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified information, assuring that more details will be released as the case progresses.
