JUST-IN: Federal High Court Judges to embark on Easter cacation April 16

The judges of the Federal High Court of Nigeria will begin their annual Easter vacation on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, with normal court sittings scheduled to resume on Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
The announcement was made in a circular signed by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, and made public through a statement issued by the Court’s Director of Information, Dr. Catherine Oby Christopher.
According to the statement, the break is in accordance with Order 46, Rule 4 (C) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019 (as amended).
However, the court will not be completely closed during this period. The Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt divisions will remain open to attend to urgent matters only.
Cases eligible for hearing during the vacation are strictly limited to those involving:
- Enforcement of fundamental rights
- Arrest or release of vessels
- Matters of urgent national interest
Vacation judges assigned to handle these emergency matters include:
Abuja Division: Justices Emeka Nwite and Musa Sulaiman Liman
Lagos Division: Justices Akintayo Aluko and Isaac I. Dipeolu
Port Harcourt Division: Justices Phoebe M. Ayua and Adamu T. Mohammed
The statement also directed that any matter requiring the urgent attention of the Chief Judge should be promptly referred through the vacation judges or heads of divisions.
Justice Tsoho concluded by wishing all judges a restful and joyful Easter celebration.
