Fubara will return as Rivers Governor – Tompolo

Former Niger Delta militant leader, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has openly expressed his support for the reinstatement of the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
Tompolo made this known during his birthday celebration held over the weekend at Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.
It will be recalled that Governor Fubara, his deputy, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly were all suspended following a state of emergency declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on March 18, 2025.
Following that declaration, retired Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, was appointed as the sole administrator of the state for an initial six-month period.
Speaking to guests at the event, Tompolo spoke about the unity and strength of the Ijaw people.
According to him, “We have only one state, and our focus remains on Bayelsa. If you think power lies solely in being president or governor, and you attempt to undermine Bayelsa, you will face consequences.”
He added, “One of us is stronger than twenty. Our brother, the governor of Bayelsa State, no matter our political disagreements, will always have our support. Even in Rivers State, our son Fubara will return to his rightful place. Dialogue and understanding will prevail.”
Tompolo also commented on the process that led to Fubara’s emergence as governor, pointing out that many Ijaw stakeholders were not carried along.
“Wike is my friend, but when he chose Fubara, no Ijaw man was involved or consulted. Yet, here we are standing for truth,” he said.
