Emir Sanusi II ignores Police ban on durbar, holds Hawan Nasarawa in Motorcade (Photos)

Despite a police ban on Eid-el-Fitr durbar events due to security concerns, the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, proceeded with the annual Hawan Nasarawa ceremony in a modified format.
The traditional ceremony, which typically involves the Emir and his entourage riding on horseback in a grand procession from his palace to the Government House to pay homage to the governor, was held on the third day of Shawwal as part of the Eid celebrations in Kano.
This year, however, Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, issued a ban on all durbar activities, citing security threats. In response, Emir Sanusi II chose to conduct the Hawan Nasarawa in a motorcade, departing the palace in a procession of vehicles rather than the customary horseback ride.
The motorcade made its way to the Government House, where Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received the Emir, preserving the tradition despite the altered format. The motorcade, which deviated from the usual route, was met with cheers from the crowd, showing that the spirit of the event remained strong among the people.
