Sen. Natasha’s Homecoming: Gov Ododo bans convoys, gatherings

In what many see as an effort to suppress opposition, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo has placed a ban on all convoy movements, rallies, and public gatherings in the state.
The restriction, announced on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, was officially attributed to security concerns.
However, sources suggest the move was aimed at preventing the homecoming celebration of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Governor Ododo’s statement cited intelligence reports warning of planned violent rallies disguised as political or religious protests.
To maintain order, the government also suspended fishing activities in Kogi Local Government Area following a crisis that claimed two lives and mandated prior clearance for security convoys entering the state.
Residents were urged to remain law-abiding and report suspicious activities. However, the ban has sparked backlash, with critics accusing the governor of using it as a tool to silence opposition voices.
Governor Ododo has also faced criticism for allegedly shielding his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, from prosecution over corruption allegations.
Despite the restrictions, Senator Akpoti’s supporters have vowed to find other ways to celebrate her return.
