Drama as Nursing Students in Delta reject First Lady Remi Tinubu as “Mother” in viral video

A video making rounds on social media captured a moment where students of the Delta State School of Nursing openly rejected Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, as their “mother” during her visit to the state on Wednesday.
Oluremi Tinubu was in Delta State for her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) project.
During the visit, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori commended her efforts, stating that the nation was witnessing significant improvements in the health sector.
He praised the First Lady for her commitment to improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians through the RHI program, which began in 2023.
As part of the event, professional kits were presented to the wives of South-South governors, who serve as RHI coordinators in their respective states.
The First Lady also met with traditional rulers at the Traditional Rulers’ Council Chambers, including the Orodje of Okpe, retired Major General Felix Mujak Peruo.
However, one moment from the event sparked widespread reactions.
In a viral clip, the event’s Master of Ceremony introduced Oluremi Tinubu as “everyone’s mother,” a common title given to First Ladies. But the nursing students refused to accept the designation.
When the MC declared, “Na our mama be this” (meaning “This is our mother”), the students responded in unison, “Na your mama be this” (meaning “This is your mother”), making their rejection clear.
ThisDay cannot site a reasonable reason for their chants, but the incident comes at a time when many Nigerians are expressing frustration over economic hardship, food scarcity, and rising living costs under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
