Edo Police launch manhunt for man accused of killing fiancée, daughter

The Edo State Police Command has begun a manhunt for a suspect accused of killing his fiancée, known as Mama Hallelujah, and her three-year-old daughter, Miracle.
CSP Moses Yamu, the command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday in Benin.
According to Yamu, the crime was uncovered on March 18 in Ovbiogoe Community, near Ekiadolor in Ovia North-East Local Government Area, after a concerned neighbor reported a foul smell coming from the victims’ residence on Idiangbona Street.
Upon breaking into the locked apartment, officers discovered the decomposing bodies of the woman and her child. The woman had a deep machete wound on her head, while the child was found lifeless on the bed.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, who has since gone into hiding, was preparing to marry the deceased on March 29 before the tragic incident.
“All evidence so far points to the fiancé, who has since gone underground. The police are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring his arrest,” Yamu stated.
He assured the public that efforts were ongoing to bring the suspect to justice and urged anyone with useful information to report to the nearest police station.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been taken to the mortuary for further examination as investigations continue.
