Fuel Tanker explode at Petrol Station while offloading contents in Niger

A fuel-laden tanker exploded on Sunday night while offloading its contents at a petrol station near the ‘B’ Division Police Station in Kontagora Local Government Area, Niger State.
Eyewitnesses reported that the explosion occurred while Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, was being discharged from the tanker.
The blast ignited a massive fire, raising concerns due to the presence of other fuel storage tanks at the station.
Speaking on the incident, Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kuma Tsukwam, confirmed that emergency responders successfully managed the situation, preventing loss of life.
“Yes, our people were able to nip it in the bud. It happened in the petrol station. They cordoned off the area, so there was no casualty,” Tsukwam stated.
He attributed the explosion to inadequate safety measures, stressing the need for fuel stations to implement strict precautions.
“Our major concern was that there was no casualty. They must maintain their safety precautions; it is inevitable,” he added.
