FG to pay backlog of N77,000 Allowance to serving, ex-Corps Members

After months of delay, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members may finally have a reason to smile as the Federal Government has assured them of receiving the backlog of their new N77,000 monthly allowance.
The government had increased corps members’ stipends from N33,000 to N77,000 in September 2024.
However, despite repeated promises, the increment has yet to be implemented, leading to widespread dissatisfaction.
Speaking on a Channels Television Program (Politics Today) , Minister of Youth Development Ayodele Olawande confirmed that the backlog would be paid, including for those who were in the scheme when the increment was announced.
“You saw the new DG saying that you will get it, and they’re asking him a question ‘What about those that are going out now, will they receive the backlog?’ He said we have your details,” Olawande stated.
While he did not specify a timeline, he assured corps members that the government was committed to fulfilling its promise.
“The backlog, we will work on it and make sure it is paid. It may not be immediate, but it will happen,” he said.
