Six Kenyan Police Officers killed in suspected Al-Shabaab attack

Six police officers were killed in Kenya on Sunday after suspected Al-Shabaab militants attacked a police reservist base in Biyamadhow, Garissa County, near the Somalia border.

According to police reports, the assailants launched an early morning assault, using various weapons to seize control of the camp. In addition to the fatalities, four others sustained injuries and were transported to a medical facility for treatment.

Al-Shabaab, a terrorist group that has been fighting the Somali federal government for over 15 years, has increased its attacks in recent months. The militants operate from Boni Forest along the Kenya-Somalia border and frequently engage in clashes with Kenyan security forces.

The group has also carried out deadly attacks deeper inside Kenya, often as retaliation for Kenya’s military operations against them in Somalia.

Authorities are yet to release further details on the latest attack.
