How PDP approved Wike’s Ministerial appointment in Tinubu’s Administration – Dan Orbih

Dan Orbih, the National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has stated that the party leadership granted permission for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, to serve in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking in Abuja on Saturday, Orbih clarified that Wike is working for Nigerians, not for the All Progressives Congress (APC). He explained that the former Rivers State governor had sought approval from relevant PDP organs before accepting the ministerial appointment, and no opposition was raised against his decision.

“And I can tell you there is no record that the current acting national chairman and the members of the national working committee, or any organ, wrote him in reply to his letter that he should not participate in this government,” Orbih said.

He further disclosed that Wike wrote to several PDP bodies, including the South-South Zonal Executive, the state chapter of the party, his ward, and local government chapters, all of which endorsed his appointment as a national service.

“He wrote to the South-South Zonal executive. We had a meeting in Port Harcourt and unanimously, we said it was a call to national service, and we gave him our nod.

“He wrote to his state chapter, and the response was positive. He wrote to his ward and local government, and there was no rejection. Even the PDP Governors Forum sent a delegation to congratulate him in Abuja,” he added.

Orbih urged the party to be cautious about how it handles internal matters, emphasizing that Wike’s participation in the APC-led federal government is not a controversy but a result of due process.

“I am also aware that not too long ago, members of the PDP Board of Trustees met him at his official residence, and throughout that meeting, none of them raised this issue,” he concluded.
