Rivers Assembly Complex will be completed before I leave office – Ibas

Rivers State Sole Administrator, Ibok Ibas, has vowed to ensure the completion of the State House of Assembly complex before the end of his tenure.

Speaking during an inspection of the project on Saturday, Ibas noted that since assuming office two days ago, he had observed a missing pillar in the state’s governance structure, the legislature.

He urged the contractor handling the project to accelerate work and meet the agreed timelines.

“I had been at the Executive arm of the State governance structure, and one of the pillars missing for now is the legislature. For them to function effectively, they need a place to work from,” Ibas stated.

He further assured that part of his mandate was to restore full legislative activities in the state.

Accompanied by the Head of Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, Ibas was taken around the site by the General Manager of the construction company, Engr. Omaka Oko.

According to him, the state government has provided the necessary funds for the project, and it is now up to the contractors to meet their obligations.

“They have a schedule and timelines that I believe they will adhere to. I think the state has done its part by providing the necessary funds, as I was briefed. So, the onus is on them to ensure they keep to the terms,” he added.
