Aide break silence on concerns over Fubara’s whereabouts

The Chief Press Secretary to the suspended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has debunked untrue reports regarding the whereabouts of the suspended Governor, asking Nigerians to disregard social media reports.

Speaking to journalists on Friday night, Nelson Chukwudi revealed that Fubara is “safe and doing well” despite being removed from the Government House along with his family and security personnel.

“Forget about what you are reading on social media. The governor is safe and doing well,” he stated.

The controversy follows President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday, which led to the suspension of Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all members of the State House of Assembly.

Tinubu appointed retired Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, as the state’s sole administrator.

The National Assembly ratified the emergency rule on Thursday after a closed-door session.

Fubara’s suspension stems from a prolonged political rift with lawmakers loyal to his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. The dispute escalated into a major crisis, prompting the president’s intervention.

Concerns over the governor’s whereabouts intensified after the South-South Elders Forum raised alarm on Thursday.

The forum’s coordinator and Niger Delta activist, Anabs Sara-Igbe, claimed that Fubara had not been seen or heard from since his removal on March 18, 2025.

He further stated that all attempts to contact the governor had been unsuccessful, fueling widespread speculation and public demands for answers.
