Sudanese Army recaptures Presidential Palace from RSF amid intensified conflict

The Sudanese Army has regained control of the presidential palace in Khartoum from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), marking a significant breakthrough in the ongoing conflict, military officials confirmed.
Videos and images circulating on social media, verified by AFP, show jubilant soldiers celebrating their victory, waving weapons, and kneeling in prayer. This latest development signals the military’s push to reassert authority over the capital, nearly two years after being overpowered by the RSF.
Khartoum, the epicenter of Sudan’s devastating civil war, has witnessed some of the fiercest battles since the conflict erupted. The RSF had maintained control over large parts of the capital and western Sudan, making this recapture a crucial turning point for the Sudanese Armed Forces.
On Thursday, residents reported hearing explosions from drone strikes and air assaults near the Republican Palace as clashes intensified. Meanwhile, RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, popularly known as Hemedti, vowed in a video message on Saturday to defend the palace and surrounding areas, warning of possible attacks in northern cities.
Efforts to broker peace have repeatedly failed, as both sides remain determined to seize strategic territories. The ongoing war has triggered a dire humanitarian crisis, with the United Nations describing it as the world’s largest, and both factions facing allegations of human rights violations.
