Gov Makinde condemns SOE in Rivers, calls for resistance

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has strongly condemn the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, describing it as an illegal move that undermines democracy.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Governor Makinde urged Nigerians to reject any action that threatens the country’s democratic growth.
He emphasized the need to stand up for justice, stating, “As our democracy grows and unfolds, we must be willing to speak up against anything that endangers our progress. We must choose to stand up for what is right, even if it means standing alone.”
The governor also commended the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for taking a firm position on the issue. He disclosed that the PDP Governors’ Forum, in an emergency meeting on Wednesday, unanimously resolved to challenge the federal government’s decision in court.
Makinde further stressed that Nigeria cannot afford to allow its hard-earned democracy, built over nearly three decades, to be destroyed.
“We cannot fold our arms and watch the democracy we have built for almost three decades be trampled upon,” he stated.
