BREAKING: FG releases withheld Rivers allocations to Sole Administrator

The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has announced the release of withheld local government allocations, pledging to ensure the immediate payment of workers’ salaries.
Speaking in Port Harcourt during a meeting with Heads of Local Government Administrators, Ibas described the gathering as a crucial step in restoring stability and progress in the state. He decried the economic hardship in the Niger Delta despite the region’s abundant natural resources, calling the situation unacceptable.
Addressing concerns over salary delays, Ibas reassured affected workers that his administration is committed to resolving the issue swiftly. “I feel the pain of the workers,” he said, vowing that salaries would be paid without further delay. However, he emphasized that financial accountability would be strictly enforced.
To ensure transparency, Ibas directed all local government areas to submit their wage bills with supporting documentation through the office of the Head of Service. He warned against financial recklessness, promising to scrutinize the management of public funds and take action against any mismanagement.
The retired vice admiral and former Chief of Naval Staff also underscored the importance of collaboration with traditional rulers and security agencies to enhance grassroots security. “You must take the lead in ensuring security within your domains,” he urged local government administrators.
In response, Clifford Paul, President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and Administrator of Port Harcourt Local Government Area, acknowledged the developmental strides made in the state despite political challenges.
He praised the Federal Government’s decision to appoint Ibas, attributing it to his competence and leadership. Paul assured support for peace and stability while urging the administrator to prioritize workers’ welfare, noting that local government employees are currently owed two months’ salaries.
He expressed optimism that the release of withheld allocations would restore trust and unity in the state.
