Fubara denies allegations in Tinubu’s nationwide broadcast, blames Wike

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Sir Similanayi Fubara, has denied allegations made against him by President Bola Tinubu, following the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.
In a nationwide broadcast, President Tinubu accused Fubara of failing to rebuild the demolished Rivers State House of Assembly complex and allowing militants to threaten oil installations without taking action.
The president justified the suspension of Fubara and the Rivers State House of Assembly, appointing a sole administrator to oversee the state’s affairs.
However, in a statement released on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara rejected the claims, describing them as misinformation.
“It is important to clarify that Governor Fubara has nothing to do with the threats by militants and did not in any way ‘telegraph’ the reported attacks on any oil facility in the state,” the statement read.
Fubara also dismissed statement that he abandoned the state assembly complex after its demolition, stating that reconstruction efforts were already 80% complete. He explained that the decision to rebuild the complex was based on expert advice, following years of neglect and poor structural integrity.
The suspended governor further linked the ongoing political crisis to comments made by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike regarding the Ijaw people, which sparked tensions in the state.
He maintained that his administration has consistently promoted peace and security, investing in military and law enforcement resources to protect lives and infrastructure.
Fubara urged security agencies to focus on the real perpetrators of violence in the state, insisting that his government has always prioritized law and order.
