Kogi Central moves to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan

A recall process has been initiated against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan by constituents in Kogi Central Senatorial District, citing a loss of confidence in her representation.
The move, which cuts across party lines, is driven by concerns over poverty, infrastructure, and education in the district.
The recall exercise, expected to last two days, will take place across polling units in the five local government areas of Kogi Central.
Constituents participating in the process will be required to sign a petition calling for the senator’s removal from office.
Key stakeholders behind the initiative claim they have made several attempts to engage with Akpoti-Uduaghan but were met with what they described as “disdain and arrogance.”
However, the recall effort has met resistance from some political leaders and community groups. A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Abdulrahman Badamasiuyi, has urged voters to reject the process, labeling it a deceptive attempt to unseat a “performing and outstanding senator.”
In his words, “You are hereby notified of a plot by some people to initiate a recall process of our distinguished Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from the Nigerian Senate. Please, do not sign any form or give any information on your voter’s card to anybody in the guise of any empowerment or some money.”
Additionally, youth and women’s groups have staged protests in Okene, warning those behind the recall process to desist. Many protesters expressed satisfaction with the senator’s performance and called for an end to the suspension of her duties.
“Natasha has done so well, and we are happy with her. We have no reason to want to recall her,” one of the youth leaders stated.
