The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed a fire incident on the Trans-Niger Delta Pipeline, operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), assuring residents that the situation has been brought under control.

The fire, which broke out on Monday night at the border of Kpor and Bodo communities, was spotted by a surveillance team during a routine patrol.

Security operatives promptly alerted SPDC, leading to the immediate shutdown of the affected pipeline as part of safety measures.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday.

However, she did not specify whether the fire resulted from an explosion, an oil spill, or militant activity.

According to Iringe-Koko, the police have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, with two individuals already arrested for questioning.

“The Rivers State Police Command has commenced a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire. In connection with this, two individuals have been taken in for questioning as part of efforts to uncover any potential act of sabotage,” she said.

The police reassured residents of their commitment to maintaining security and urged them to remain calm and vigilant.

“We will ensure that perpetrators of criminal activities are identified and brought to justice.

The Command will not relent in its efforts to rid the state of criminal elements and maintain peace and security for all,” Iringe-Koko added.
