Rivers PDP moves to expel Wike over alleged anti-party activities

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong warning to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over the ongoing political crisis in the state, threatening to expel him if tensions continue to rise.
Speaking at a press conference in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, the acting state chairman of the PDP, Robinson Ewor, accused Wike of multiple anti-party activities.
He revealed that the leadership of the party would not hesitate to take disciplinary action, including suspension or outright expulsion, if necessary.
Ewor also addressed the recent Supreme Court ruling, rejecting claims that Martins Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers remained in the PDP.
He maintained that the legislators had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and dismissed contrary interpretations of the ruling.
The political crisis in Rivers State has deepened in recent months, with tensions escalating between Wike’s loyalists and PDP members aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The latest warning from the state PDP highlights the growing divisions within the party and raises uncertainty about Wike’s political future.
“The Supreme Court made three key orders, but at this stage, the court erred in law. The FCT minister is serving in the cabinet of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and you know no man can serve two masters.
Even the Bible says so, you will be loyal to one and not the other,” Ewor stated.
He further accused Wike of working against the PDP’s interests, saying, “Because Nyesom Wike is serving in Tinubu’s government, his loyalty is now fully with the APC. If you take actions that bring the party into disrepute, that is anti-party activity. The FCT minister has repeatedly taken such actions.”
Ewor assured that the party would take action at the appropriate time, explaining that PDP has internal structures such as the National Executive Council (NEC), National Working Committee (NWC), and state executive committees that oversee disciplinary measures.
“The challenge Wike created in this state for us as a party is enormous. The day we fully regain control of the party in Rivers State, we will discipline him for his anti-party activities, which could lead to his suspension or outright expulsion,” he added.
Reiterating the stance of the party on the lawmakers’ defection, Ewor insisted that Martins Amaewhule and the 26 others were no longer PDP members, citing their public announcement in the State House of Assembly and a sworn affidavit in an Abuja High Court.
“If they were still members of our party, why haven’t they followed the Supreme Court’s directive to receive the budget? Even the President has acknowledged their defection. It’s not just about what the Supreme Court said, the facts speak for themselves,” he declared.
Despite the political turmoil, the PDP commended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his commitment to implementing the Supreme Court’s judgment in the interest of Rivers people.
The party also urged the 27 lawmakers to comply with the ruling in a manner that benefits the state.
The PDP further called on Wike to step back from the political conflict and allow peace to return so that Governor Fubara can focus on governance.
