Reps passes four controversial Tax Reform Bills
The House of Representatives has approved four major tax reform bills after weeks of deliberation and public scrutiny.
The bills, which include the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill (HB.1756), Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill (HB.1757), Joint Revenue Board Bill (HB.1758), and Nigeria Tax Bill (HB.1759), were passed through third reading on Tuesday following a clause-by-clause consideration last Thursday.
Originally sent to the National Assembly by the Executive in October 2024, the bills sparked widespread debate among stakeholders, including individuals, business groups, and regional representatives.
Concerns over their potential impact on taxation and revenue generation led to wider consultations and a public hearing, after which amendments were made.
The House Committee on Finance refined the bills, introducing new sections and removing controversial provisions before final approval.
