The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed an $8 billion Green Imperative Project (GIP) agreement with Brazil to enhance the country’s agricultural sector.

The agreement was finalized during a meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, with a Brazilian delegation led by the country’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Carlos Garcete.

Also in attendance were the Minister of State for Agriculture, Abdullahi Sabi, Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, as well as the governors of Benue and Jigawa states, among others.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Marcus Ogunbiyi, signed the agreement on behalf of the Federal Government.

The Green Imperative Project is a private sector-driven initiative designed to support small-scale farmers across Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.

Vice President Shettima described the project as part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen food security in the country.
