Police debunk reports of attack on Wike’s residence in Port Harcourt

The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging that the Port Harcourt residence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, was attacked and set ablaze by hoodlums.
Some online media platforms had claimed on Sunday night that Wike’s home was under siege. However, in a statement on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Grace Iringe-Koko, described the reports as false and misleading.
> “The attention of the Rivers State Police Command has been drawn to a misleading and malicious report… falsely claiming that riots have erupted in Rivers State, leading to the burning of the residence of the former Governor and current Minister of the FCT,” Iringe-Koko stated.
She categorically denied any record of such an incident, warning that the reports were deliberate attempts to incite unrest.
> “The general public is urged to disregard these unfounded claims, which are clearly intended to cause panic and destabilize the relative peace and security enjoyed by the good people of Rivers State.”
The police further warned against the spread of false information, emphasizing that anyone found guilty of spreading misinformation would face legal consequences.
“The full weight of the law will be brought to bear on individuals or groups attempting to disrupt the peace in any form.”
Iringe-Koko reassured Rivers State residents of the police’s commitment to security, urging them to rely on credible sources for information and report any suspicious activities.
