Police rescue kidnap victims, neutralise seven suspects in Abia, Nasarawa

Security operatives in Abia and Nasarawa states have successfully rescued four kidnapped victims and neutralised seven criminals, including a notorious kidnapper known as ‘Honor,’ during separate operations.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer on Sunday, the operations also led to the recovery of arms and ammunition, while some suspects managed to escape with gunshot wounds.
In Abia State, police received reports on March 9, 2025, that four people had been kidnapped while driving their Toyota RAV4 along New Umuahia Road, Obingwa. Acting on intelligence, the command’s tactical team raided a three-bedroom bungalow in Osokwa, Osisioma LGA, on March 14, where the victims were being held.
A gunfight erupted during the operation, leading to the neutralisation of six kidnappers. The victims were safely rescued, and security operatives recovered two AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and 34 rounds of live ammunition. The rescued individuals were later taken to the police hospital for medical care.
In Nasarawa State, a separate operation involving police officers, the Nigerian Army, and local vigilantes led to the tracking of the wanted kidnapper ‘Honor’ in Akwanga. He was intercepted near Akwanga Central Mosque while attempting to escape on a motorcycle.
The suspect, who was armed, resisted arrest but was swiftly neutralised. Security operatives recovered a Beretta pistol and 12 rounds of 9mm live ammunition. One of his accomplices escaped with gunshot wounds, and a manhunt has been launched to apprehend him.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun praised the operatives for their professionalism and reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to tackling kidnapping and violent crimes.
“These recent operations underscore the resilience of the Nigeria Police Force in combating criminality. We remain dedicated to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of all citizens,” the IGP stated.
