Carabao Cup: Newcastle stun Liverpool 2-1 to lift first major trophy in 70 Years

Newcastle United secured a historic victory on Sunday, defeating Liverpool 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium to win their first major trophy since 1955.
The match began with both sides playing cautiously, but Newcastle took the lead just before halftime when defender Dan Burn headed in a goal from a corner during stoppage time.
In the second half, the Magpies continued to dominate, doubling their advantage in the 52nd minute as Alexander Isak capitalised on a defensive lapse by Liverpool.
Despite making several substitutions, including Curtis Jones and Darwin Núñez, Liverpool struggled to break through Newcastle’s resolute defence.
Federico Chiesa pulled one back in stoppage time (90+4), raising hopes of a late comeback, but Newcastle held firm to seal the 2-1 victory.
The final whistle confirmed Newcastle’s long-awaited victory, marking their first major silverware in 70 years.
The victory also means manager Eddie Howe’s first trophy win, capping off a memorable night for the club and its supporters.
