Tinubu is not the reason you cannot get a job. Here’s why! by Reno Omokri

In 2024, Nigeria’s economy grew by 3.84%, close to double the global GDP growth of 2.6%. And our international trade grew even more last year.
We generated a trade surplus of ₦18.86 trillion in 2024, up from ₦6.09 trillion in 2023. That is an astonishing 209.6% growth.
Meanwhile, insecurity is at its lowest level since 2014, according to the Institute for Economics and Peace’s annual Global Terrorism Index. As a result, more Nigerians are able to return to farms that were once occupied by bandits and terrorists.
Since 69% of Nigerians are employed in the agricultural sector, Nigeria’s unemployment rate has crashed to an astonishing 4.3%, while inflation has dropped from 34.80% last year to 24.48% in February 2025.
Yet, you say President Tinubu is not trying because you are not working.
Tinubu’s government is not useless because you are a graduate and don’t have a job. The uselessness came from the course you studied. Please fact-check me. People who read the same Political Science, Sociology, Public Administration, Anthropology, Philosophy, Library Science, and other liberal courses as you are also jobless or doing menial jobs in Britain, America, and Canada.
There are opportunities in Nigeria if you have the right skills. If you have a two-year National Diploma in Nursing, you will get a job in two seconds. While you are at that job, recruiters from the U.S., EU, UK, and Canada will even approach you.
Dangote Refinery is in dire need of thousands of technicians. Get a two-year National Diploma in Petroleum Refining Technology from the Petroleum Training Institute, Effurun, and you will be given a job before you graduate.
Nigeria has approximately forty thousand telecom towers. One of the biggest headaches of telecommunications firms in Nigeria is finding qualified people to maintain them. Please fact-check me: Too often, telcos have to bring in technicians from South Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and North Africa.
Instead of spending four years reading a dying course like Mass Communications, Linguistics, and International Relations, why not take a six-month to one-year course to become an Information Communications Technician? That is one of the most in-demand skills in Nigeria.
Nigeria has a housing deficit of over 28 million houses. What does that tell you? We need bricklayers, artisans, roofers, and carpenters. You can get these skills from the many technical colleges in Nigeria.
While there are indeed challenges in Nigeria, for a large part, many Military Aged Males refuse to join the armed forces and paramilitary services, which are the most consistent employers of labour in the public service. Apply to join the Military, Police, Customs, Immigration, Prisons, DSS, Civil Defence, and the National Park Service.
Southerners like to complain that ‘ns so so Hausa dey these places’. How many of you enlist? Even the colonialists found it easier to recruit from the North, which is why both the Nigerian Army and Police originated from the Hausa Constabulary in 1865.
There are jobs and opportunities in Nigeria. You do not get or see them because you think all degrees and skills are equal. They are not.
Study what Nigeria needs, not what you think you need, and you will get a job within weeks.
