INEC releases updated Voter Register, Party List for Rivers LG Elections (Photos)

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released an updated voter register and the official list of political parties ahead of the rescheduled local government elections in Rivers State.

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) confirmed on Thursday that it had received the revised voter list and party details as part of preparations for the upcoming elections, scheduled to take place on August 9, 2025.

The fresh elections were necessitated by a recent Supreme Court ruling that annulled the October 5, 2025, local government polls.

The ruling created a leadership gap at the council level, prompting Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara to direct outgoing council chairmen to hand over to the Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs) to maintain governance continuity until new elections are held.

RSIEC has assured stakeholders that the election process will be free, fair, and credible.
