Tinubu hosts Senate leadership to Iftar, VP Shettima calls for unity

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday hosted the leadership of the Senate to Iftar, the traditional breaking of the Ramadan fast, emphasizing the importance of unity and collaboration in governance.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who addressed the gathering, urged political leaders to work together to sustain the progress made under President Tinubu’s administration.
He highlighted recent economic improvements, including falling food prices, a decline in petrol costs, and stability in the forex market, as evidence of the government’s bold reforms.
“The economy is projected to grow at 4.3 to 4.6 percent this year, and in the fullness of time, posterity will be kind to you, Mr. President,” Shettima stated, according to a statement by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha.
He further emphasized the need for continued cooperation between the executive and legislative arms, saying, “We are members of the same family but sleeping in different rooms.
We are essentially one people tied to a common destiny. What unites us supersedes whatever it is that divides us.”
Speaking on behalf of the Senate, Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his support of the 10th Senate, including his swift approval of legislative bills.
He assured the president of the Senate’s continued cooperation, stating that lawmakers across party lines are committed to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We are proud of your achievements, Mr. President, and we will continue to collaborate with the executive for the progress of Nigeria,” Akpabio assured.
He also prayed for divine wisdom and good health for both the president and vice president as they work toward national development.
Senator Abdulaziz Yar’adua of Katsina State offered prayers for national unity and wise counsel for Nigeria’s leadership.
Other notable attendees at the Iftar included Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, Minority Leader Abba Moro, former Senate President Ahmed Lawan, and Senate Chief Whip Mohammed Monguno, among other senators.
