Real Madrid edge Atletico in penalty shootout to set up Arsenal clash

Defending champions Real Madrid secured a spot in the Champions League quarter-finals after defeating Atletico Madrid 4-2 on penalties in a dramatic all-Spanish encounter on Wednesday.
The tie ended 2-2 on aggregate, forcing a tense shootout at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Atletico had drawn level overall just moments into the second leg when Conor Gallagher struck in the opening minute.
However, Real Madrid held their nerve in the penalty shootout, sealing victory after Julian Alvarez’s attempt was disallowed for touching the ball twice, while Marcos Llorente’s effort struck the crossbar.
With the win, Real Madrid will now face Arsenal in the next round as they continue their quest for another Champions League title.
