Niger Gov Bago reserves all Vice-Chairmanship positions for Women in upcoming LG polls

In a landmark decision to boost women’s participation in governance, Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State has directed that all vice-chairmanship positions in the 25 local government areas be reserved exclusively for women in the upcoming local government elections.
Governor Bago, known for his strong advocacy for women’s inclusion in leadership, stated that women have been sidelined for too long despite their crucial contributions to society.
“Empowering women in governance is not just about fairness—it is a strategic move for the sustainable development of the state and the country at large,” he said.
H stated that the initiative goes beyond fulfilling gender quotas, noting that women bring balance, innovation, and resilience to governance.
The directive was made public in a statement by the governor’s Special Adviser on Print Media, affirming his administration’s commitment to breaking barriers for women in leadership.
Governor Bago urged stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State to support the initiative, to further strengthen the importance of inclusivity in the upcoming local government elections.
