Ukraine has agreed to a 30-day ceasefire proposal with Russia, following discussions in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.

The United States, in response, has pledged to immediately resume intelligence sharing and military aid to Kyiv.

In a joint statement released by the U.S. State Department, both countries confirmed Ukraine’s willingness to accept the ceasefire, provided Russia also agrees and implements it at the same time.

“Ukraine expressed readiness to accept the U.S. proposal to enact an immediate, interim 30-day ceasefire, which can be extended by mutual agreement of the parties, and which is subject to acceptance and concurrent implementation by the Russian Federation,” the statement read.

The U.S. emphasized that Russian cooperation is crucial for achieving peace.

The agreement came after over eight hours of negotiations between Ukrainian officials and a U.S. delegation led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The U.S. also announced that it would immediately lift the suspension on intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine, which had been paused after a tense meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House on February 28.

The military aid, now reinstated, includes about $3.8 billion worth of equipment, such as air defense systems, HIMARS rocket launchers, artillery, and support for Ukrainian fighter jets.

Ukraine has relied on U.S. and Western support since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022, and the temporary halt in assistance had left Kyiv at a disadvantage.

It remains uncertain whether Russia will accept the ceasefire. Meanwhile, U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff is expected to visit Russia soon.

Witkoff had a three-hour meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in February, and his upcoming visit may play a key role in determining Moscow’s response.
