Ex-Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dubem Onyia, passes away at 73

The family of Hon. Chief Dubem Onyia, a former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, has announced his passing at the age of 73.

According to a statement released on Tuesday by Engr. Emeka Onyia on behalf of the family, Chief Onyia died on Monday after a brief illness, surrounded by his loved ones.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Hon. Chief Dubem Onyia, a distinguished statesman and former Honourable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs,” the statement read.

“Chief Onyia dedicated his life to God and public service, leaving an indelible mark on Nigeria’s diplomatic landscape both at home and abroad. His tenure as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs was defined by his unwavering commitment to national interest, a legacy that continues to inspire.”

The family described him as a devoted husband, father, and mentor who was widely respected for his integrity, leadership, and generosity. Beyond government service, he made significant contributions to society through his wisdom and dedication to improving lives.

Chief Onyia is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, and numerous relatives, political allies, and friends.

The family stated that details of his funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
