Rivers Assembly issues warrant of arrest for RSIEC Chairman, commissioners over no-show

The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued an arrest warrant for the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Justice Adolphus Enebeli (Retd.), along with four other commissioners, following their failure to appear before the Assembly.
The warrant was approved during Monday’s plenary session after the officials ignored a 72-hour ultimatum, which followed an earlier 48-hour deadline that expired last Friday. Speaker Martin Amaewhule and the lawmakers insisted on their appearance, stressing the need for accountability.
Meanwhile, the crisis surrounding the state’s electoral body deepened as Ibiemebo Evelyn Thompson, the RSIEC Commissioner for Transport, Logistics, and Store, resigned on Monday.
Her resignation follows those of Lazberry Nnah and Professor Simeon Weli, who stepped down last week after the Supreme Court nullified the October 5, 2024, local government elections in the state.
