Barcelona’s LaLiga fixture against Osasuna was abruptly postponed just 20 minutes before kickoff on Saturday following the unexpected passing of first-team doctor Carles Miñarro García.

Miñarro García, who had been with Barcelona since 2017, transitioned to the first team last summer after previously working with the club’s futsal squad.

“Barcelona are deeply saddened to announce the passing of first-team doctor Carles Miñarro García this evening,” the club said in a statement. “For this reason, the match against Osasuna has been postponed and will be rearranged for a later date.”

Sources indicate that Barcelona players were informed of Miñarro García’s death upon their arrival at the Olympic Stadium. The squad unanimously agreed to request a postponement, which LaLiga approved.

Tributes poured in from players, with Gavi writing on Instagram, “Always in our hearts, Doc. We will miss you a lot,” while Pedri expressed disbelief, sending condolences to Miñarro García’s family and friends. Defender Ronald Araújo also paid tribute, stating, “Rest in peace, Doc. May God strengthen your hearts in this difficult time.”

Supporters had already filled the stadium before the announcement was made, initially confused when players did not appear for warm-ups. A statement on the big screen soon confirmed the postponement, and fans exited respectfully.

The rescheduled date for the match is yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, Barcelona remain at the top of LaLiga, leading Atlético Madrid by one point and Real Madrid by three.
