Kwara MACBAN Chairman Idris Sakaina shot dead by gunmen

The Kwara State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Idris Abubakar Sakaina, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Saturday evening in front of his residence.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of MACBAN in Kwara stated that Sakaina was returning home around 10 p.m. when he was attacked and shot multiple times at the entrance of his house.

The Kwara State Police Command also verified the development in a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, SP Ejire Adetoun. According to the police, five expended 7.62mm shells were recovered at the scene, and an investigation has commenced to apprehend the perpetrators.

“The Kwara State Police Command confirms the murder of Alhaji Idris Abubakar, the Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Kwara State, who was shot dead on 8th March 2025 at the entrance of his residence in Oke Ose, Oke-Oyi,” the statement read.

The remains of the MACBAN chairman were deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) mortuary before his burial on Sunday morning in the Zango area of Ilorin.

Reacting to the assassination, the state chapter of MACBAN expressed shock and urged security agencies to track down the culprits swiftly.

In a statement signed by the state secretary, AbdulAzeez Muhammed, and the Fulani leader in Kwara, Alhaji Ojonla Mahmud, the association called for justice and appealed to the government to provide support for Sakaina’s family, particularly in ensuring his children receive quality education and welfare assistance.
